Orion Severhill

At home, I'm a photographer, bibliophile, chef, and world traveler. At work, I'm a software developer, system & business analyst, consultant, product, program, & project manager, and once upon a timeā€¦ a potato chip salesman.

Ever in the pursuit of absolute truth, I read. A lot. I am currently reading "Leadership Agility: Five Levels of Mastery for Anticipating and Initiating Change" (Joiner & Josephs). I play well with others, but am not afraid to stand my ground. And in my version of sanity, you don't repeat the same task over and over again; automation is king.

I see product development, and Product Management, as the application of empathy to technology and problems. My career has spanned many roles in SAAS organizations - the common thread for job satisfaction and success has been delivering solutions, true solutions to the challenges that individuals and businesses are experiencing. At times this satisfaction has been measured in decreased complaints and decreased time on task, indicating a simplified workflow. Other times, it required coordinating analysts, designers, developers, and data to prove there is a latent opportunity that changes how banks perform due diligence on billion-dollar trades. Satisfaction has always come from bringing well-understood problems to teams that are empowered to solve them.

When I've launched a product you will find me celebrating by finding new hills to tackle on my longboard and sipping a glass of Irish whiskey, neat. Though not at the same time.
